Day 3

Santiago: Optional Tour

Breakfast at the hotel.

Day of leisure. We suggest one of the following optional tours:

VIÑA DEL MAR & VALPARAISO. Full day excursion to Viña del Mar (120 km.), located on a rocky coastline facing the Pacific, better known as “Garden City”, due to its beautiful parks, original suburban architectural style, busy beaches and coastal avenues dotted with modern buildings, premium hotels, casino, and gourmet restaurants. Proceeding to Valparaíso, the first port of Chile, declared the Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, built on hills on the coast of a hectic Bay. Traditional is the use of elevators to join the two levels of the city. Evening return to Santiago.

SANTA RITA VINEYARD. Depart from Santiago to the Maipo Valley, a place that delights with the stunning beauty of its countryside landscapes. Arrival at the Santa Rita Vineyard, founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha, who introduced fine French wine stocks that originate from his winemaking. The vineyard’s wine cellar has been awarded National Monument status, and it mixes traditional French oak barrels and American oak barrels with state-of-the-art systems, providing its wines a unique flavor. The owner’s house is rising imposing amidst a 40-hectares park where old-centennial trees captivate the visitors’ attention. We suggest that you have lunch in the vineyard’s restaurant “Doña Paula”, named a National Monument. Its name honors Paula Jaraquemada, a woman who gave shelter, during the Independence time, General Bernardo O’Higgins and 120 of his soldiers. This heroic act gave a name to one of the vineyard’s most famous wines. Return to the hotel.

SKI RESORTS (7 hours). The tour begins with a short but picturesque drive following the Mapocho River until you begin ascending the Andes.

The first stop will be El Colorado, 50 km east of Santiago. Getting there is comfortable since the road is well paved. Its maximum elevation is 3333 meters and the center is at 2430. You will next visit La Parva, the maximum elevation is 3630 meters and its center is 2662 meters. You can either ski or hike on trails in the company of an experienced guide. After three hours at this ski center, you will return to Santiago
